Arathy hails from Kerala, a southern state in India, was raised in Dubai and found her better half and her vocation in Washington, D.C. Arathy has been dancing from the time she learned to walk. Over the course of 15 years, she studied the Indian classical dance forms of Bharatnatyam, Kuchipudi, and Mohiniyattom. She has performed Indian classical dance styles as well as Bollywood dance styles in Dubai and Kerala.
While earning her masters in Deaf education in 2012, she co-founded Masti Moves, a dance company to give the Deaf community in the DC, MD, VA area(DMV) the opportunity to experience a culture that is different from their own as well as to inculcate a sense of Desi pride among individuals of South Asian heritage. Over the past couple of years, Masti Moves has been part of several Desi Deaf events on the East Coast. Her love of dance led her to BollyX videos on YouTube and BollyX certification!
When she isn't planning engaging English lessons for her students at Model Secondary School for the Deaf, she leads Bollywood dance classes in ASL at Gallaudet University. She spends her summers supporting bilingual Deaf education in India through Young Achievers, the organization that she co-founded to promote bilingual Deaf education in India.
