Joaquin was born and raised in Mexico, in the northern state of Chihuahua. He started dancing early in his life, at the age of 4. The journey started with Mexican Folkloric Dance, and for 12 years he danced everything from the "Jarana" Yucateca, to Sonoran "Danza del Venado," and everything in between. In high school, he changed styles and went into Ballet, Jazz, and Tap, with gymnastics sprinkled in there, a good dose of "aerobics" (yep, early 1990's, outfits and all), and even some musical theater during the college years. That was another 10-year run of 8 to 10 hours per week of dance classes and performances. Then it was time to shift focus to family, and to climbing the corporate ladder. Somewhere in there was a move to the US (Phoenix, AZ first, then Naperville, IL).
In the mid-2010s Joaquín decided it was a good time to go back to the arts, he found first a Ballet Studio, and shortly thereafter he was introduced to the Aerial Arts (Silks, Hammocks, Pole), and BollyX!
Joaquin was thrilled to find a workout routine that was based on culturally-rich dance, with a solid exercise science foundation, catchy music, great rhythm, and just plain FUN! After a little over 2 years of taking BollyX classes, Joaquin was strongly encouraged by his instructors and the studio owners to get certified and teach... and here he is!
On the boring side, by day Joaquin is an IT/Math major, working as an IT Executive, focusing on process improvement and cyber-security. (That's right, quite the Dr. Jekyll / Mr. Hyde) :-)
