I believe that dance is the joy of movement and the heart of life and keeps you true to your roots. Dancing makes me feel very happy and is an art that I am very passionate about. Dancing brings people closer together so that we are all a closer-knit community. I remember when I was a kid and during family gatherings or functions, I would get my sister and cousins together and we would perform in Bollywood music. I have danced in various cultural shows and competitions in Nepal, India and in the U.S for the most part of my life. I was part of the Dance team at Ohio Wesleyan University and we were called, “Ladies in Red” and performed modern and hip-hop dance at football and basketball games. I performed in cultural shows both at Boston College and University of Connecticut to portray my culture, music and love for dancing. I am a public health professional and a social worker and currently work at the Executive Office of Health and Human Services doing policy work.
In my previous job at Boston Public Health Commission, I taught Bollywood dance geared towards fitness during what they call, "Stress Free Fridays". I firmly believe in the saying that, “life is not about waiting for the storm to pass, it’s about learning to dance in the rain.” BollyX gave me that platform to teach dance, get into a fitness routine, have a supportive network of BollyX friends and mentors and really be able to give back to the community. I have my Masters in Public Health from University of Connecticut and Masters in Social Work from Boston College. I want to continue in this field where I am serving women, children and their families and improving their lives as well as helping people lead stress free lives by teaching them the art of dance and fitness and unleashing their inner Rockstar!
