In 2013, fresh off the semi-finals of NBC’s America’s Got Talent, Shahil Patel was more determined than ever to bring Bollywood to the masses! He convinced two fellow alumni from UC Berkeley to take the startup plunge with him: Mayuri Bhandari, winner of Miss India Global; and Minal Mehta, a recent graduate from Harvard Business School. Realizing that fitness was an incredible way to bring people of all backgrounds together, the team quickly united with Fen Tung, a fitness industry veteran with over 15 years of experience armed with certifications from Les Mills, Zumba, AFAA, NASM and more. The crew then crossed paths with Brent Lagerman, the branding guru behind the billion-dollar fitness event company Tough Mudder. Brent became CTO of BollyX to build a state-of-the-art online training portal that would enable instructors to seamlessly access choreography, manage classes and build a following.

Fast forward five years: BollyX found itself pitching The Bollywood Workout on ABC’s Shark Tank, launching 500+ weekly Bollywood workout classes across 30+ states with a growing community of over 4,000 BollyX trainees and instructors. The company also rolled out BollyX on Demand, now powering over 10,000 rockstars dancing to BollyX from happy homes all over the world. BollyX classes are held in major cities such as Boston, NYC, Chicago, Dallas, Seattle, San Francisco, London and Vancouver, with more being added to the list every month. BollyX instructors come from a wide range of backgrounds spanning from ‘brand-new-to-fitness’ to experienced dancers and fitness instructors who already teach cardio dance, Pilates, boot camp, TRX and more. BollyX has headlined at IDEA World, the US fitness industry’s largest convention, and has won the Harvard Business School Award of “Most Innovative” new venture of 2015. As the BollyX instructor community rapidly expands, it’s just a matter of time before BollyX comes to a gym near you!
